More power to Shields! Nvidia Shield Firmware 2.0 released! includes passthrough support for Dolby.

Nvidia has a released a firmware update for the Nvidia Shield, one of the best Kodi devices on the market. This brings the firmware to version 2.0 and the update includes a wealth of updates. The biggest Kodi related addition is pass-through support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio lossless audio, remedying one of the Shield’s more glaring weaknesses and the biggest complaint we’ve seen regarding the device. For those invested or interested in the Android gaming features of the shield the firmware update includes select support 4K Ultra HD games. The currently supported games are Bombsquad, Beach Buggy Racing, Riptide GP 2, Hardwood Solitaire IV, Kosmik Revenge, Leo’s Fortune, Video Poker Duel, Machinarium, Never Alone, Meltdown, Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders, and Samurai II. Other updates include 23.976 Hz playback support and overscan adjustment, the capability to move data files from USB to MicroSD with the use of the ES File Explorer, the video playback experience for YouTube and Netflix, the lower audio latency for gameplay, and the option to manually shut off the Shield controller by pressing the Nvidia button for 6 seconds. The Nvidia shield recently went on sale in Europe and includes support for their GeForce Now game streaming service.
