It’s been in the making for some time now and the developers behind the immensely popular media streaming platform now known as KODI have released their latest version. KODI 15.0, Isengard a beefed up version of its predecessor, KODI 14.2 Helix. Now as with previous releases there is no immediate difference, many of you will not notice the difference between 14.2 and 15.0 however there are some pretty cool updates such as 4K support for Android devices, Refresh rate switching, HEVC playback, improved add-on management, chapter selector, adaptive seeking (skipping) and many more.

All in all KODI 15 has gained several new features which are sure to please the community. It would seem that the developers have taken on board what the community have asked for over the years and created this powerhouse platform. As the say, “Isengard, one release to rule them all”. So lets look a little deeper into what’s actually new.


Official release of KODI in the Google Play Store. Users with an Android device can now easily install KODI 15 on their devices simply by downloading from their Google Play accounts. For full details on KODI 15 for Android, please visit the Google Play Store.

New Chapter Selector Window.
A great new feature in 15.0 which allows the end user to select which chapter of from mkvs and other supported formats they want to skip to.

Adaptive seeking (Skipping Ahead)
A great new feature which lets you skip ahead a certain period of time in the playback. The more times you press it the more it jumps forward.

Audio & Subtitle lists
With this new feature as a user you’re able to select from a full list of audio and subtitle options rather than manually searching.

Language Add-ons and Expanded International Preferences
You’re now able to get regular updates on language translations, as they are no longer dependent on new releases.
Additionally, you now have total control over date, time, temperature and more displayed formats

Improved Add-on Manager
Add-on manager page has been re formatted to make it easier and faster to find the add-on you’re looking for.

Additional Updates In KODI 15.

  • ffmpeg 2.6.3 update
  • Improved Closed Captioning support in Live TV
  • Fixed music video queuing
  • Allow scanning of new sources and marking as watched during other library operations such as “update library”
  • Windows DXVA HEVC hardware decoding support if driver and hardware support exist

Changes from 14.2 to 15.0 include:

  • Minimal 10.7 Lion 64-bit required on Mac OSX
  • Minimal iOS 5.1 required and ATV2 support discontinued
  • Minimum Android 4.2 Jelly Bean MR1 required on Android
  • Ubuntu 12.04 support dropped in PPA
  • On Android the system now handles the volume instead of Kodi
  • Removed the need for root/SU on Android. Some hardware/firmware might not like that. Please contact your hardware supplier
  • Removal of Tuxbox support. Users of Enigma2 boxes can use the VUPlus PVR add-on
  • Removal of AFP filesystem support
  • Remove legacy code pre-Frodo 11.0
  • Vast amount of possible memory leaks, segfaults, crashes and minor issues have been fixed
  • General improvements regarding code stability and performance in all areas
  • General code clean-up in all areas to simplify adding future features
