First things first, you’re going to need a DATHO account, so click on the link below to sign up for an account. There are different account levels to choose from including a restricted free account.
You can either download the repository from the Super Repo or directly download and install using the shared files on your network. For the sake of this post, we’re going to download and install manually.
If you want to install via the Super Repo but don’t yet have their repository then click the link below to find out how to install.
In this case after downloading the repository I have dropped the file in my DOWNLOADS folder for easy access on the Prometheus. This tutorial will assume you did the same. If you place elsewhere will be different of course. Place the .zip where you’d like and follow the steps below.
STEP 1. OPEN YOUR ADD-ONS TAB BY CLICKING THE DOWN ARROW ON YOUR KEYBOARD FROM ANY MAIN MENU UNTIL YOU SEE IT AND SELECTING IT. SCROLL TO ADD-ONS AND THEN INSTALL FROM ZIP.
STEP 2. CLICK ON HOME.
STEP 3. LOCATE THE FOLDER WHERE YOU DROPPED THE .ZIP FILE. IN MY CASE I PLACED IT IN THE DOWNLOADS FOLDER (YOU MAY HAVE DONE SOMETHING DIFFERENT).
STEP 4. ONCE IN THE FOLDER YOU SHOULD SEE THE .ZIP FILE WHICH YOU DROPPED IN THERE. SO CLICK ON IT TO INSTALL THE FILE.
STEP 5. ONCE INSTALLED YOU CAN EXIT OUT OF THAT SCREEN, PRESS BACK TILL YOU GET BACK TO THE ADD-ON PAGE. THIS TIME CLICK ON GET ADD-ONS.
STEP 6. NOW SCROLL THROUGH THE LIST OF INSTALLED REPOSITORIES AND LOCATE THE DATHO ADD-ON REPOSITORY AND CLICK ENTER.
STEP 7. CLICK ON PROGRAM ADD-ONS AND THEN CLICK ON DATHO VPN.
STEP 8. NOW CLICK INSTALL.
STEP 9. YOU SHOULD THEN NOTICE THAT THE ADD-ON HAS INSTALLED BY THE NOTIFICATION AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN.
STEP 10. FROM THE MAIN MENU, CLICK THE DOWN ARROW TO BRING UP THE SMART MENU AND THEN LOCATE PROGRAM ADD-ONS AND CLICK ENTER.
STEP 11. FROM THE LIST OF PROGRAM ADD-ONS LOCATE THE DATHO VPNAND THEN CLICK THE C BUTTON THE KEYBOARD TO SHOW THE CONTEXT MENU. CLICK ON CONFIGURE ADD-ON
Right here is where you’re going to need to place your account details that you created at the very start.
Click VPN USERNAME and enter details and then VPN PASSWORD and click done.
Once you’ve done that, that’s pretty much that. Datho VPN is now installed and your account is set up. You can click back to get back to the program add-on page and then open up DATHO VPN
You’ll then see the options in here as shown below.
Select a country which you would like to create a VPN connection with for example, click on the USA.
You will then see the list of states which have an open network for you to connect to. The numbers next to the name are number of users who are currently connected to the server.
Once you click on one to connect, you will notice that you’re connected when the notification at the top of the screen tells you where you are connected to and the IP address which you’re connected to.
That’s pretty much it guys. There are as we know several different VPN services out there which work great with XBMC/KODI however with DATHO VPN claiming to be one the first it’s certainly worth giving them a go, at least test it out with their free account. Keep in mind though that their free accounts are restricted. The premium accounts will have a lot more servers to chose from as well as better speeds and higher bandwidths. In all honesty, I would chose to test it out on a monthly basis, that way you will have full access to all their servers and increased bandwidths for the small price of $7.99.
