Beelink SEA I Review

Beelink SEA I ReviewThis Beelink SEA I Review was written by Troy from TROYPOINT after extensively using this Android Kodi box for more than three weeks.

The Beelink SEA I is a little larger than the typical Android TV Box due to the fact that this model can hold a hard disk inside of it.  There is a removable hard disk box on the unit that will hold a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive.  The dimensions of this Android Box are 7.4 x 4.69 x 0.79 inches.

The remote that comes with the Beelink SEA I is something that stands out because it works much better than typical remotes that come with these Android TV Boxes.  This remote includes buttons for your television such as power, volume up, and volume down.  There is also a learn button on the remote which will allow you to use this with your existing television.  You will also find buttons for volume, settings, Kodi, menu, browser, mouse toggle, delete, and input method.

One amazing feature of this box is the HDMI In port.  This allows you to connect another HDMI device to the SEA I and enjoy features that not too many other Android boxes can boast.  The HDMI In port will support simultaneous displays on the same screen and allow you to switch between them.

I hooked my 2nd Generation Fire TV into the HDMI In port of the Beelink SEA I and enjoyed the ability to switch quickly between these two devices.

Another huge feature that makes the Beelink SEA I stand out is the option to add a hard drive to the device.  Most Android TV Boxes come with the option of increasing the storage by using an SD card or usb drive.  Although this device does support both USB and SD storage, the option to use an actual hard drive is pretty interesting.  In my review, I plugged a 500GB SATA hard drive into the box.  The system recognized the drive immediately after I plugged in the drive and turned on the Android box.  The maximum hard drive size for the Beelink SEA I is 1 TB.

Due to the combination of the HDMI In and ability to connect a hard drive, the Beelink SEA I provides the ability to record a stream from the input.  Keep in mind that if you want to do this, you may need to purchase an HDMI splitter to get rid of the copyright protection that often comes on devices that you would like to connect to the box.

The user interface for this device is similar to the other current Beelink Android TV box models.  It is very easy to navigate and provides the typical area for adding your favorite applications on a separate media and games screen.

The Beelink SEA I did not come with Kodi installed and I imagine that this is due to the crackdown of selling boxes loaded with all of the questionable addons.  But, installing Kodi is simple and it only requires that you sign into Google Play app store and install it from that application.  I tend to always do a clean install of Kodi anyway so this is definitely not a negative for me.  But, for those who are looking for a box already loaded with Kodi and the popular addons, this may not be a good choice.

The download and upload speeds are great for the Beelink SEA I.  A wireless connection provided a download speed of 131.93 Mbps with upload at 22.18 Mbps.  When the Android box was plugged directly into my router with a cat cable, download speed was 134.26 Mbps and upload speed was 23.68 Mbps.

Would I use the Beelink SEA I In My Home As My Main Kodi Box?

Yes, I like the idea of the ability to connect another device to the HDMI In port on the SEA I.  This will work great with other Android Boxes, Fire TV/Sticks, video game systems, etc.
